The International Oriental Dance Festival is here again so start practicing your shimmy-shakes!
If you’ve always wanted to see a real belly dance show, or want to learn all the tricks to swinging your own hips, than keep an eye open for the International Oriental Dance Festival from the 24th to the 27th of October 2013 at various locations in Cape Town.
The Oriental Dance Festival is not just a festival it is also is a charity event in aid of the Saartjie Baartman Centre for (abused) women and children in Athlone. Belly dancers who hail from all over South Africa and as far as Bangladesh, Turkey, Mexico and the USA will shake their hips. Thursday 24 October is an opening gala event at Ratanga Junction. Saturday 26 and Sunday 26 October at the V&A Waterfront is a less expensive and less formal programme. It is a free fringe programme where hundreds of belly dancers from beginners to master-level. Besides the belly dance shows and workshops you can also check the bazaar where you can grab some food and buy dancing accessories, jewellery and costumes.

The International Oriental Dance Festival kick starts at 8pm with a gala evening at the Ratanga Junction UV Theatre. Tickets cost R150p/p and will be available at Computicket outlets.
• Friday, 25 and Saturday, 26 October 2013
The workshops will be held at Kranking Fitness Studio at the V&A Waterfront and will run from 10:30am to 7:15pm on Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday. Each workshop is two hours long and costs R350p/p, which includes a signed certificate. For more information about the workshop programme, consult the International Oriental Dance Festival website.
